Core Research Facilities and Resources
The É«ÏãÊÓƵsupports the operations of several Core Research Facilities, allowing students, professional staff, faculty, and external partners to pursue research in a wide range of scientific and technological fields. Established by the Office of Research and Innovation, the Cores offer opportunities for hands-on learning, discovery, and knowledge sharing with state-of-the-art equipment, lab space, training, and expertise.
Each Core features highly trained managers to streamline the research process, as well as cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities, including labs, makerspaces, and research vessels. The Cores are open to undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty members, startups, and researchers across Maine and beyond. Funding is available to help cover research core fees, making these resources accessible to students and professionals alike.
There are four Core Research Facilities at É«ÏãÊÓƵ:
- Behavior Core: Supports research on pain, related conditions, and early-stage drug discovery
- Bioanalytical Core: Enables studies in drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology with advanced assays
- Histology and Imaging Core: Provides histology, imaging, and image-analysis capabilities for tissue-based research
- In Vitro Analytical Core: Advances the study of cell signaling, aging, stress, and metabolism
